The Pastors’ Wives Project

 

Pilot completed with 8 interventions.

 

            103 participants:

84% African American

7% Caucasian

3% Asian

1% American Indian

5% were other

1% unknown

 

89% reported learning new information, 10% did not respond to question

72% of women contacted for follow-up (#68) report sharing the new information with others

83% pledged to get a Pap in the next 12 months

59% pledged to get a mammogram in the next 12 months

67% provided a specific pledge date (month)

89% of participants 40 & older pledged to get a mammogram

5% indicated they did not know when they would get a mammogram

Confirmed screening is at 11%

61% of women contacted for follow-up had scheduled/completed one/both appointments

 

Follow-up and evaluation is on-going

Abstract submitted for ACS conference, Bridging the Health Care Divide: Research and Programs to Eliminate Cancer Disparities (April/New Orleans)

Final summary analysis & write-up begins in January

Once final analysis complete (June?), explore metro expansion

PWs will be invited to a de-brief meeting in Feb/March – share intervention impressions & experiences, be invited to train (sustainability), and to say THANKS!!!!!

 

 

Meeting in Rochester Dec 12 to explore PWP expansion –next step, informational meeting with PWs and champions

Rochester meeting identified another possible project in the Hispanic community/St. Charles – follow up meeting in Jan

 

Cervical Cancer Screening Team –Looking ahead to 2007

4 projects tentatively elected for implementation

 

 

    Culturally appropriate peer educator training to reach African

      Women, breast focus

          Reaching Muslim Women through the Islamic Center of MN:

Phase I includes focus groups, survey, key informant interviews & data collection

Phase II includes training graduate student to deliver educational intervention on & breast & cervical screening to women at the ISM

          Expanding breast & cervical outreach to Karen women

          Replicating a “See, Test & Treat” event in St. Paul (breast & cervical)
