Interdisciplinary Approaches to Reducing Health Disparities: Where to go from Here

This roundtable will explore strategies to reduce health disparities that target the underlying causes of health disparities in minority and low income populations. Special attention will be given to strategies that draw on perspectives from multiple disciplines.

Keynote Speakers
Dr. David Williams, Harvard University
Dr. Alice Ammerman, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill

Dr. David Williams is a Florence Sprague Norman and Laura Smart Professor of Public Health (Harvard school of Public health) and Professor of African and African American studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science (Harvard University). His research has focuses on social influences on health and what social and economic policies are needed to reduce health disparities.

Dr. Alice Ammerman is a Professor of Public Health at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Her research focuses school nutrition policy associated with childhood obesity, sustainable agriculture as it related to improved nutrition, and social entrepreneurship as a sustainable approach to addressing public health problems.
