1. Welcome/Introductions: Tien Phan is a new member. She will be working with Marie Tran. Katie Maxfield joined us from IHB and she will be added to the member list. Marie requested that Dia Xiong from North Point also be added.
2. New Leaders: Marie Tran and Sara Rohde will assume leadership at the November meeting. Thank you!
3. New England Journal of Medicine Articles: Shelley Madigan sent talking points from the CDC about these articles(included as an attachment to the minutes). It is clear that we are looking at moving target when we talk about messages for women. Until it is clearer that there will be economic savings from the HPV testing, current guidelines are unlikely to be changed. HPV testing is currently an option for women over 30. Actual practice by primary care providers varies widely in the U.S. It is important for the present to keep our message very simple. It is also clear that a professional tool kit could be very useful, but may be difficult to develop until guidelines are more established.
4. Cervical Cancer Screening Tool Kits: We reviewed the proposed card which has been worked on by a professional designer. We made a few changes in text based on comments from numerous people. The card now reads: “Every year, ask about a Pap smear” If the answer is “no”, ask “why?”. We want the question to start a conversation with the physician that will help the woman understand what her specific needs are in regards to Pap smears. The use of MCA logo is still up in the air, but once the mock-up is ready we will ask for approval to use it from the Steering Committee. Janet will move this forward. We should have cards available for the November meeting.
5. Screening Project: Makeisha Nesbitt reported that Three Rivers Pathology is willing to support a screening project, but the only clinic currently expressing an interest is St. Paul Public Health (Mary Sonnen). The plan is to do a meeting with the clinic, Three Rivers Pathology and Makeisha to determine when, where and how the event will be done. She will keep us posted.
6. Next Meeting: November 27, 2007, 10:00 to 12:00. Snelling Office Park
