  • We are moving many directions: need to prioritize , create when and how to achieve.  Who is going to do what.
  • Everyone needs to be involved
  • We Have to show and measure achievement .. We need to be result oriented
  • Megersa's role is to help group refocus and identify steps, and may be able to bring "help" depending on what is needed.
  • How do steps fit together in a bigger project

1.       Add cervical information to F to F

·        Shelly asked for more details on the "What"

  • If you are thinking of working with churches on subject of cervical cancer, cancer screening need to include younger women.
  • North Point serves large population of Asian women (Hmong) as well as African American

BUT is not to focus of intervention churches are

(Northpoint has been a good partner)

  • Age need to be restricted but must be considered re. message, educational goals
  • Friend to friend is a possible format that could be used to:

o    Educate

o    Make referral information available

o    Share experiences:

    • What to expect
    • Can have different age groups

(We don't know demographic of churches) We can eventually expand strategy

  • Africian American and Hispanic Churches

Friend to Friend

·        What role do people in this room play in the above scheme?

    • Depends on time an interest
    • People may want to work on other projects

·        Note: Cancer Awareness Sunday

o      One day per year where churches "discuss" cancer

o      Megersa would like to expand this to 3 times a year

o      Example:  April general cancer awareness month.  Expand to several Sunday's with short summaries

o      June:  Prostate Cancer /Colorectal

o      October:   Breast Cancer

  • Will NEED to have volunteers for Friend to Friend to train women in churches
  • Add cervical cancer into the F to F:  need 6 to type out text
  • Intervention ready by 3/15?
  • ACS and churches need to work together can incentives to attend education at screening

Does Megersa need to work with Benita outside this meeting?

  • Friend to Friend training with W. 7 in community center in St. Paul

Updates

  • Marva:  Oncology RN society how applied for annual grant to do cervical cancer awareness in 2006
  •         Link with Mn Black Nurses Association.  Can partner with us
  • Heidi (from Digene): Digene will be able to:

1.      Do Somali and Vietnamese materials    .pdf - trifold materials on HPV produced by Digene in English only so far

2.      Digene will have speaker at Women's Health Expo (January 27, 28, 29, 2006)  Dr. Tory Burroughs

  • Liz:  Changing meeting schedule

o       Quarterly meetings of all Health Disparities project - Health Disparities Task Force

o       All teams spend first hour sharing what they are doing 10 - 12 a,m,: groups meet individually

o       Goal:      identify and communication

·        GayLynn:

o       December 27th   meeting is cancelled

o       January meeting is scheduled in addition to January 12th meeting

o       GayLynn will still facilitate things and get minutes
