1.   Welcome/Introductions

2.   St. Paul  Women's Expo:  Heidi Martin from DiGene is asking for assistance at the booth they are sponsoring at the St. Paul Women's Expo on March 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on March 19 from 11:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m.  Dai Vu assisted with the Minneapolis Women's Expo and enjoyed the experience very

much.  If you are interested contact Heidi at 612-889-5991 or heidi.martin@digene.com

3.   Cervical Screening Resources Data Base:  Erin has developed a data base listing the

Available resources.  They are currently in an Access Data Base which isn't compatible with the MDH Web site.  Eventually we will be able to link to eligibility tables.  Erin will demonstrate at the next meeting, March 28.

  1. Budget:  Application will be made to the University of Minnesota Cancer   Center for funding from two sources:  The Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Funding and the Pfizer Account  for Educating Diverse Communities about Cancer.  Approximately $5000 from each of these funds is available.  ACS will also give an unspecified amount from the Friend to Friend Account.
  2. Drafting Objectives for the Project:  We reviewed both process and outcome objectives drafted by Makeisha and Elisabeth.  Lisa Stephens provided input into this process.  A copy of the proposed draft is attached.  These will be presented for feedback at the Pastor's Wives meeting scheduled for March 13.  It may be quite difficult to quantify outcomes because of the small numbers involved in this project.  Shelly Madigan will develop a knowledge/attitude survey which can be administered on site.  We would also like to do a post-event survey and had a lively discussion about best ways to accomplish this.  We may be able to have students from Colleges Against Cancer help with call back surveys.  These students will need training.  Gay Lynn will provide any training needed.  Mary Winnet will be returning from family leave shortly and we will see if she can provide MPH student to collect and analyze data.
  3. Review of Friend to Friend Materials :  Roshan, Dai and  Makeisha reviewed the materials provided in a typical Friend to Friend packet.  Marva suggested putting in a fact sheet about cervical cancer in Minnesota.  It was also suggested that the standard ACS folder cover be replaced with something more culturally appropriate
  4. Marketing:  Roshan and Marva will discuss with Janice Rannow and Mary Lawson.  Nicole suggested an interview could be done in advance with Dr.  Levi Downs and offered to North side newspapers.    It would be interesting to see if we could do a KMOJ call-in or other call-in format.  Friend to Friend has typically been advertised by word of mouth.  A personal invitation by the Pastors Wives was proposed.  The ability to do this may be different for smaller congregations compared to larger ones.
  5. Names for the Project:  We are looking for a snappier name for the project.  River of Life has been proposed, but there may be copyright issues with this and confusion since there is a Minneapolis church with this name.  Other suggestions:  Cancer Prevention for Women Project (Shorten to Can Prevent); Inner You; Each one-Teach one: Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Project; It Takes a Village.
  6. Next Meeting:  March 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.  Snelling Office Park.
