North Minneapolis Prostate Screening Project - American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society Health Disparities Department has partnered with North Memorial Medical Center and Jordan Area Community Council to implement a free prostate education and screening program in north Minneapolis for men over 45 years of age.  Men without health insurance and live in north Minneapolis are encouraged to participate.

Urologists from various Urology groups volunteer to provide Digital Rectal Examinations.  Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests are provided by North Memorial Medical Center.  Monthly sessions are held at NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center and West Broadway- North Memorial Clinic in North Minneapolis.

Alliance members who are not currently offering this program can join forces to promote this free education and screening program.  Grass-roots organizations and community clinics are encouraged to collaborate with the American Cancer Society to provide this program throughout the Twin Cities metro area.

Attributes of the Prostate Screening Program:

  • Aligns with Minnesota Cancer Alliance's priorities- primarily reducing disparities in cancer screening and treatment
  • Focuses on serving those most in need including the uninsured and underinsured
  • Collaborates with community-based organizations, institutions of faith and clinics and hospitals to provide the services in diverse communities
  • Provide on-site prostate screenings at community clinics
