| Patricia Swanson, R.N., is the founder, president, and administrator of Kittson County Hospice. She has served as a hospice nurse for over 22 years. Located in Northwest Minnesota, the organization is the only licensed volunteer-operated hospice in the state.
Swanson served as board chair for the former Minnesota Division of the American Cancer Society, and as president of the Minnesota Cancer Council, which was instrumental in establishing the Minnesota Cancer Surveillance System. She was a charter member of the steering committee for the development of Cancer Plan Minnesota, and continues as an active member of the Minnesota Cancer Alliance. In addition, Swanson is a member of the American Cancer Society national board of directors. She is the author of ''Health Care & Education-a Guide for the Migrant School Nurse and Teacher," published by the Minnesota Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education, and the author of numerous articles on adult learning and voluntarism.
