The Minnesota Cancer Alliance was pleased to present the 2011 Cancer Summit. This summit held to launch the new Cancer Plan Minnesota 2011- 2016 and to galvanize Alliance member participation in advancing the Plan. In addition, topics focusing on how health care reform may affect cancer prevention and control in Minnesota and the need for Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) changes were discussed during the day-long conference.
The keynote speaker was Lawrence Wallack, Dean, College of Urban and Public Affairs, Portland State University and Emeritus Professor, Public Health University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Wallack was the founding director of the Berkeley Media Studies Group, an organization conducting research and training in the use of media to promote healthy public policies.
Program Objectives:
1. Identify the focus areas in the new Cancer Plan Minnesota 2011-2016. 2. Recognize the accomplishments of the Minnesota Cancer Alliance since 2005 including task forces, project teams, and individuals. 3. Identify how participants and organizations can contribute to the success of Alliance initiatives.
